Sawubona! (‘hello’ in siSwati)
I am Matt Jones (Zama Tsabedze) and I am spending the next couple years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulandzeni, Swaziland. My focus will be in community health education relating to HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation.
I recently graduated in Dec 2010 from Iowa State University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and a focus in human medicine. Last spring semester I went to a Peace Corps info session with some friends and got hooked big time. In March I found out I will be heading out to Swaziland in June.
In the mean time, I will be staying in the always hopping city of Rochester, MN. At least I am near some good friends and the best family one could wish for.
A little more about myself:
- I have been described as loud, particularly my laugh, …really loud.
- I enjoy cooking and eating a variety of foods including Korean foods. *Funny story, people seem to like asking if I ever cook “uh…you know (cue awkward gesturing)…um…like…authentic…um…like…” That’s when I blurt out “Asian food?” I find the whole exchange hilarious. Others feel REALLY awkward (probs why I think it’s funny). Oh, I’m a Korean adoptee. That should have been stated before all this.
- I’m active (except of late). I like to run, bike, and ski. PC told me that I may not be able to ski (alpine, xc, or roller) where I’d be going in Africa. Anyone else find that funny?
